A common need for the home or office user is renaming multiple files or folders – perhaps to make simple changes such as making commonly understanable names or to create a sequence of entirely new names. FilerFrog’s Rename make this easy: just select the files and/or folders you want to work with, right-click, and choose theRename submenu.

FilerFrog has quite a few rather exciting built in options for renaming files and/or folders:

  • Find Replace
  • Auto Numbering
  • Alphabetize
  • Append
  • Auto Numbering with Append (Links to Auto Numbering)
  • Alphabetize with Append (Links to Alphabetize)
  • Make All Same Name
  • Truncate

Rename - Find Replace

Here you have the option of entering a search criteria and the text to replace that criteria with. FilerFrog will search all selected files and folders and replace all occurrences of the old name with the new one you entered.

For example: For a file named “uselessFile.PDF”, if you enter “useless” in the Findtextbox, and “Important” in the Replace textbox, “uselessFile.PDF” will be renamed “ImportantFile.PDF”.

Rename - Auto Numbering

You have never seen such an easy way of auto numbering your files !!!
With Filerfrog's Auto Numbering option for rename you can autonumber selected files and folder with just a few click of your mouse.

Usage: Select any number of files and a start number, and FilerFrog will rename all the files with numbers, starting from the number you’ve selected.

For example: “this.PDF”, “is.JPG” and “cool.TXT”, with the starting number chosen as 9, will be renamed to “9.PDF”, “10.JPG” and “11.JPG”.

Auto Numbering with Append

This feature combines the features Auto Numbering and Append (well duh ...).

Rename the chosen files/folders with automatically generated numbering, as well as any prefix and/or postfix as you like.

For example: If you choose “Paris” as a prefix and 1 as the starting number, “DC00021.jpeg”, “DC00025.jpeg” and “DC00041.jpeg” would become “Paris1.jpeg”, “Paris2.jpeg” and “Paris3.jpeg”.

Extra tip from the frog:  As you can see from the example, this option is quite useful for organizing pictures or other documents that share a common characteristic.

Extra tip from the frog (WoW!!! 2 Tips in a row !):  After selecting your files and selecting the appropriate rename method for you, you'll have a way of ordering your files so you have the power to decide how the rename will be done.

Rename - Alphabetize

Alphabetize your files if you need them ordered in a specific way.

Usage: Choose any number of files and/or folders, and FilerFrog will rename them as the letters of the alphabet, starting (of course) with “A”.

For example: “Filer.PDF”, “Frog.MP3” and “Rulez!!.BMP” will be renamed “A.PDF”, “B.MP3” and “C.BMP”.

Rename - Alphabetize with Append

Rename files as the letters of the alphabet, as well as any prefix and/or postfix you choose.

For example: If you choose “FilerFrog file-“ as the prefix, “Filer.PDF”, “Frog.PDF” and “Rulez!!.PDF”, would be renamed to “FilerFrog file -A.PDF”, “FilerFrog file -B.PDF” and “FilerFrog file -C.PDF”.

Extra tip from the frog:  This feature comes in handy when organizing files that naturally partitioned into pieces smaller than the whole, like homemade recordings of audio or video.

Extra tip from the frog (WoW!!! 2 Tips in a row !):  After selecting your files and selecting the appropriate rename method for you, you'll have a way of ordering your files so you have the power to decide how the rename will be done.

Rename - Append

Add prefix and/or postfix to the file names of your choice. Select any number of files and folders, enter free text to append to the file names and FilerFrog will add that text to the original file names.

For example: If you choose a file named “Pic435.jpg”, enter “Paris-“ in the prefix textbox and “(Excellent Zoom)” in the suffix textbox, the file will be renamed “Paris-Pic435 (Excellent Zoom).jpg”.

Extra tip from the frog:  This feature, of course, is quite useful when renaming a large number of files, such as photos, that share a common quality.

Rename - Make All Same Name

Now you can rename all files selected to the same name.
All the selected files will be name by the name of one of them. Don't worry ... you can select which one will be the anchor name.

Usage:  Simply select any number of files and folders, choose Make All Same Namefrom the Rename submenu, and in the dialog that appears, select which one of the names you’d like to use. Needless to say, the files’ extensions stay as they were.

Possible Scenario: You are writing a paper on an art masterpiece such as Michelangelo’s David and you have quite a few files describing it (a few pictures, a Word document, a presentation etc.). The names of the files are not indicative of their content (as pictures are often named “DC000081.jpeg”) and you would like to associate all these files with the article you are writing. Just use Make All Same Nameand choose the name of your article as the name to use and you’re done. Associating the files is easy once their names are the same!

Extra tip from the frog:  Useful when you want to unify the names of a movie file and the corresponding subtitles file.

Rename - Truncate

FilerFrog Rename Truncate makes it easy to remove annoying characters from file names.

Usage:  Simply select any number of files and folders and choose Truncate from the Rename submenu. In the dialog, select the number of characters you wish to truncate from the files and folders. You can also choose if you want to include the extension in the truncate process.

Possible Scenario: You have your mp3 album files and they all starting with the song number: "01-Song1.mp3", "02-Song2.mp3" etc. In order to remove the song number from the beginning of eery file, you simply need to truncate the first 2 characters. With FilerFrog Rename Truncate you can easily remove the 2 characters from the beginning of every file.

Extra tip from the frog:  Useful when you need to remove the extension of a bunch of files at once.

Image Manipulation - Resize

Image resizing has become a necessity for users of the internet, who post photos on their blogs, use pictures for an avatar and e-mail pictures to friends and family. Since cameras are now equipped with 10+ megapixels, pictures can be quite large in size and therefore, need to be shrunk in order to be uploaded. FilerFrog’s Resize Image is an intuitive and easy to use tool that does this and more!

"Custom Resize" Usage: Simply right click an image file and choose Custom Resizefrom Image Manipulation submenu. Here you have the choice of how to change the size of your image: by percentage of the original image or by image dimensions in pixels (useful for when you know the exact size of the photo). Also, you can change the image’s compression quality, which will have a direct effect on the image file’s size. Your Image can also be converted to and saved as a JPEG file, which is the most commonly used format for images. Click OK and a copy of your image will be added to the folder, its name indicative of the operations done by FilerFrog. For example “1.jpeg” will be named “1 - Copy_FrogShrinker50%Q8” if you resized the image to 50% of its original size, and change its compression quality to 8.

Extra tip from the frog: Also, in the Image Manipulation submenu, FilerFrog also has a few commonly used set sizes (25%, 50%, 75% and 100%), with and without the option to convert the image to a JPEG file, for quick and easy usage.

Image Manipulation - Put Logo On Image

Put your business or personal logo on every image from your selection.

Usage:  Simply select any number of files and folders and choose Put Logo On Image from the Image Manipulation submenu. In the dialog, select the logo image file and its location on the selected images. Now, decide if you want them to be created in a new folder and That's it! All your images will contain the logo on them.

Possible Scenario: You took some great pictures from your trip to paris and you want to sell some of them on your website. You want people to see a preview but you also want to prevent them from stealing your images. No problem, FilerFrog is here for you. Create a logo that you want to be placed on each one of your images and FilerFrog will do the rest.

Extra tip from the frog:  If you’re not sure about the options, take a look at the preview on the right hand side of the screen!
